2021 Shiraz
The second release from our wonderful single vineyard, old vine Shiraz block; Lot 22. This wine seems to be going from strength to strength since being made as a single vineyard wine. This release is every bit as good as the 2020, if not a touch better IMHO, and that release was given the equal top score of 96 points ever awarded by Australian Wine Showcase Magazine!
For those who aren’t familiar with this wine's story. This single vineyard wine comes from a small block on our property in Bethany, nestled in the foothills of the Barossa Ranges. In the past this wine was never made as a single vineyard wine due to the fact the old vines had very minimal yield and the block was quite small so the previous winery never had a tank small enough to keep this wonderful parcel separate. Due to this the block became known as a logistical inconvenience and was never favourably regarded as it had to be harvested alongside another larger block to fill a fermenter. Years went past and this block never had the chance to shine... Then Stuart and Jessica Bloomfield, having tasted the block's fruit over several years, saw the diamond in the ruff and convinced their family that this vineyard was calling out to them to be made on its own. The 2020 vintage arrived and this small, old vine block received the TLC and expertise it had never received and the rest is now history...
This single vineyard wine is symbolic of power and elegance. Intense aroma and flavours of sweet spices, plum, dark cherry, violets, cocoa and toasty oak. The palate is dense, yet elegant with a great balance and a long, morish finish. So enjoyable now and will greatly reward patience in the cellar. Drink: Now – 2038.
